I want Microsoft to buy Yahoo!

When Microsoft made it public that it wanted to buy Yahoo! a couple months ago, I was like “yeahhh, someone is finally going to make things harder for Google”. While I didn’t expect Jerry Yang, CEO and co-founder of Yahoo! to be really excited about that, I certainly didn’t expect him to be such an ass by simply ignoring Microsoft’s offer.

Yahoo! new it was in danger and tried to work out a deal with NewsCorp (the devil wearing Prada…). It didn’t work out.

Two weeks ago, Microsoft issued this press release, making it pretty clear that Yahoo! didn’t have much choice. Yahoo!’s share has just been performing poorly (it even lost value since Microsoft’s first offer) Here is my favorite part of the press release:

If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors for the Yahoo! board.

To me, this is a nicer way to say there will be blood….

Yahoo!’s answer didn’t make sense. Come on, how long can you shoot yourself in the foot without crying? Until your foot becomes completely numb I guess. Yahoo! is acting like a little kid. I understand it must be tough to have to give away your company to someone else, but still, a little pride wouldn’t hurt Mr. Yang.

Yahoo is now looking for new heroes to the rescue. AOL is on the list and…….. Google too. Can you believe that? The two old time rivals trying to work out a deal!! That is how desperate Yang is. Yahoo! will even be displaying Google ads on some of its search results. A deal between Yahoo! and Google would obviously create some anti-trust issue.

So why do I want Microsoft to buy Yahoo!? Simply because the Internet needs another search engine. Google is awesome. I love Google; that is my homepage on my Internet browser, all my searches are made through it but I still think Google is evil. I guess the average Internet user has no clue what Google does, the way it collects data and how it is being more and more part of anything you do online.

Google scares me. I might be laughed at for saying that but I think that in the close future, we’ll see more and more associations, forums and blogs highlighting how Google abuses its domination of the market. Are you laughing at me or are you with me on this one?
